Nathan Taare

Nathan Taare is a multidisciplinary artist and designer working at the intersection of production design, olfactory creation, and sonic experimentation. Based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa, Nathan is known for crafting bold, emotionally charged environments that merge the seen, the sensed, and the unseen. His work spans feature film, television, live performance, and gallery installation - always rooted in atmosphere, feeling, and the raw edge of experience.

With a background forged in underground music, scent formulation, and visual storytelling, Nathan moves fluidly between mediums to create work that is immersive, elemental, and uncompromising. He often works with themes that explore the darker, more complex sides of the human condition - drawing from ritual, memory, land, and the subconscious to build worlds that hit deep.

As a production designer and art director, he has contributed to a range of narrative and experimental screen projects, known for his minimal yet highly textural style. He is also the founder of OF BODY, an independent olfactory studio producing handmade scent-based works and spatial interventions.

Recent projects include scent-led installations at The Dowse Art Museum and atmospheric sound/scent performances that operate somewhere between concert, ceremony, and dream. Whether he's designing a film set, constructing a smell for a political ghost, or composing sonic fog, Nathan's practice is always experiential, sensory-first, and emotionally full.
